Here you will find information about the Martial Art, classes, resources, a small store for equipment and uniforms, and links.
Simpkins Do is a balanced Martial Art based in Tae Kwon Do, Bando, and Wing Chun. It combines hard and soft force, high and low, hand and foot techniques, and emphasizes the balance between Mind, Body, and Spirit. We have been teaching as well as practicing Simpkins Do since the 1970s, and it is a family Martial Art. Many of our students go on to complete doctorates in a variety of fields and achieve many accomplishments. Simpkins Do has been taught to thousands of students since the 1970s. The discipline one gains as well as the positve mental attitudes can be applied to all areas of life. Students learn tools of meditation, health, fitness, and self-defense. They also build confidence and strength. It is a fun and enriching activity, and can benefit people of all ages. The Way of Simpkins Do is The Way of personal development.

About Class structureOur classes typically consist of multiple segments including basics (the A-B-C's of our art), meditation and martial art stories/philosophy, forms (the 'literature' of our art), partner exercises, and stretching (at the start and conclusion of each class). If there are multiple age groups or experience levels, parts of the class are completed all together and parts are separated into smaller groups led by each instructor. We are a 'no contact' art, meaning students do not receive strikes. Martial arts are normally categorized as no-contact, light-contact, or heavy-contact/hard-contact. No-contact facilitates the safe practice of the art as well as the control over distance and force. Students learn to handle force by pad work (holding protective pads for other students) while avoiding the limitations and safety issues of contact.

Simpkins Do always begins and ends in courtesy.
Meditation is integrated into our art. Students gain experience with various forms of meditation that can benefit them in all areas of life.
Students learn the literature of our art through the practice of forms. Forms are sequences of movements combined together.
Simpkins Do is a fun healthy activity for students of all ages! We offer summer camps as well (photographed here).
Part of the workouts consist of partner exercises where students practice movement sequences together in a carefully controlled way. Here a takedown sequence is demonstrated where the defending artist executes an advanced movement with care for his partner.
Students learn from working together with a variety of partners.
Basics are the A-B-Cs of our art. The class completes these together led by the instructors, with feedback on form.
